"My daughter, having been in an accident that completely destroyed her knee which required extensive surgery, and living overseas, was suffering with PTSD . This was interfering with her healing and recovery. I took her to visit with Barbara and Jeanie at Equinimity. Their attention, caring and healing strategies not only amazed us at the time, but my daughter took with her memories, stories and strategies back overseas, where she is working now, and uses them on a continual basis.
Somatic experiencing, touch therapy and being with the horses in a gentle, caring atmosphere helped with healing and practices to help moderate the autonomous nervous system. Thank you to Barbara and Jeanie for making time for us and sharing your intelligence and healing."

“When I go to Equinimity, I love being around the horses. They make my heart feel so much lighter. Once, I remember, I was really, really stressed about school. I went to see them and, afterwards, I felt so good and so encouraged. The horses really understand me. It is as if they tell me “Everything is ok, you can relax, you are ok, you can do it”. When I am with the horses, I feel like the horses need me – and I need their emotional support.”

"Equinimity has been a true blessing to my family. Because of the generosity of this non-profit organization, I am able to afford my daughter’s weekly sessions with Anna, one of their very kind and knowledgeable professionals. My daughter has benefited from somatic experiencing sessions that have supported her to regulate her nervous system and build her emotional resilience, especially during this strange year.
Equinimity is an amazing non-profit organization that has supported me to find the light within to continue to walk my path in life with love and acceptance of self. Barbara has graciously supported me through very challenging moments and I have been able to make changes that have improved the quality of my life. Jeanie with her beautiful knowledge and the horses have supported me to honor the present moment and to build awareness for my day to day experiences."

"Equanimity and the precious moments Elwyn spent working with you will forever be in my heart. When Elwyn first came to see the non-profit, my previously adventurous child had become immobilized by chronic pain, vertigo, anxiety, and distrust of his own body and abilities. He had endured countless medical evaluations that were at best fruitless, more often they were traumatizing. Jeanie never failed to meet him exactly where he was at, physically and emotionally, accommodating his limited physical abilities to always find a way for him to engage with the horses. I will never forget the day that Barbara's horse was suffering from pain. Barbara asked Elwyn what he thought the problem could be. She asked this sincerely, not as a patronizing or rhetorical question. In their shared observation of the horse and his gait, Elwyn discovered a source of imbalance and was moved to place his own hand on the horse's painful hindquarter. Both he and the horse experienced a healing flow of energy, a relaxation and a relief of painful symptoms. Jeanie and Barbara held the space for Elwyn to express his own power to bring healing to another and so to himself. I believe that moment will live forever in Elwyn's heart and will be a template for him to activate healing in various ways throughout his life.
It has been a few years since we have been to the Equinimity stables. After eventually discovering and treating the bio-accumulation of lead that had debilitated him, Elwyn began in earnest making up for the lost time of his childhood. He chooses to work out daily, and bikes across town to play music on the porch with friends. He spends long hours playing electric bass and guitar and has begun to study keyboard and teach himself the harmonica. He is careful about observing pandemic precautions but doesn't let this keep him from living a pretty full life. To offset the isolation of online school we are looking into him volunteering at one of the therapeutic ranches near our house (TROT or Heart of the Horse). I have encouraged him to return to Equinimity to help out there but I think he mostly wants to avoid reminders of his illness. But for me your place is a reminder of total acceptance and healing.
With gratitude in my heart for all they do!"

"My experiences with Equinimity have been both on the receiving end (as a client) and on the teaching front (Horse Powered Reading with Equinimity’s support). As a client, I have experienced healing and growth through the care and expertise of Barbara, Jeanie, and the ‘barn gang.’ Shifts in emotional and mental patterns via counseling and close work with the horses have helped me through dark times and onto a settled and happy place. The horses continue to be a part of that whenever I make ‘unofficial’ visits. They are unconditionally accepting and have an uncanny sense of what’s needed at any moment.
Equinimity generously allowed me to provide academic support for one of my students. As a public school teacher at a Title I school, I see that the academic and socio-emotional needs are great in my school community. I received training to provide academic intervention through Horse Powered Reading, but I don’t have a horse or the horsemanship skills to run the program alone. Jeanie has been instrumental in supplying both for the HPR program. We had plans to run a week-long summer reading program, but various factors beyond our control precluded our ambitions. I hope to continue and expand this tutoring program in the future with Equinimity’s help."

"My 10 year old son and I have been visiting Equinimity and working with Jeanie for 18 months. The horses have taught us both so much about patience, kindness, and mindfulness. My son can now communicate with the horses without speaking words. He understands each horse's personality and we both consider them our friends. Equinimity, the horses, and Jeanie have become an important part of our weekly lives."

"I have been involved with Equinimity since its inception and it is a haven of healing. I have both benefitted personally from the amazing work of Jeanie and Barbara, and have been honored to be a member of Equinimity as a fellow Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and Equine-assisted therapist. I have had so many wonderful experiences at Equinimity.
One experience was about a year ago when Equinimity had a fundraising event that offered free pony rides for the children, a live presentation of the power of somatic-based, equine-assisted learning by Jeanie and Barbara, live music, fun and games. It was a joy to be a part of that event.
Another experience was providing a somatic-based, equine-assisted learning experience at Equinimity for the interns and faculty who I work with, and having Jeanie co-facilitate with me. It was a meaningful time for the interns and faculty, and so regulating to be with the wonderful herd.
It is a very special organization!"
