ABOUT EQUINIMITY

Based in Tucson, Arizona

Picture
Equanimity (Latin: æquanimitas having an even mind; aequus even animus mind/soul) is a state of psychological stability and composure which is undisturbed by experience of or exposure to emotions, pain, or other phenomena that may cause others to lose the balance of their mind.
Equinimity is based on the idea that when we can connect to the inherent interconnectedness of all life, and when we acknowledge our Creative Self, we feel more whole.

We believe that everybody deserves to experience their authentic wholeness and inherent belonging in Nature. Our wish is that no one is excluded from these experiences.

We are more than the sum of our parts, we are body, mind, heart, spirit, soul and that each of these aspects needs to be attended to in our lives, acknowledged, nurtured, honored, and known.

We believe that relationally connecting with Nature, Creativity, and Movement can support us in (re) connecting to the interconnected, regulating our nervous systems and connecting us with our innate resources of equanimity, the human heart, spirit and creativity.

Adverse experiences generate displacement, disembodiment, and shame. These experiences challenge our self worth, thwart our creativity, discourage us from embodying ourselves fully and inhibit us from living into our capacity to be in our true, full, authentic Self.

At the heart of early relational childhood trauma is the wound of not being seen, not feeling a sense of worth, not realizing a sense of belonging. This can happen through neglect, abuse, displacement due to disaster, medical trauma, long separations from family/community systems, intergenerational trauma and systemic oppression.

We believe that all people can benefit from relationally connecting to the interconnected through Nature, Creativity and Movement.

We started Equinimity so that we can offer our services to the widest possible span of communities; to and for people who don’t have access to such experiences and offerings for whatever reason.

We believe that we all grow together in safe spaces and supportive environments. We hope that Equinimity is a safe place to Be. A safe place to feel connected to, to be seen, to be open, to be expressive, to integrate adverse experiences, to explore, process and share grief, loss and joy.

Equinimity can be a place where people can find Belonging and re-connect to the worth and truth of themselves through healthy secure-base attachments with people, nature, art and rhythm.

It is important to recognize that relative safety in our modern environment is not universally accessible due to legacies of power and oppression. Histories of marginalization and colonization, systemic oppression such as racism, classism, ableism, and queer/trans phobia, and the continued legacies of patriarchy create conditions whereby our social and physiological survival capacities are misused to maintain oppression. We work to recognize that oppression is trauma. We practice in service of healing trauma on individual and collective levels so that we may all be free, and work toward responsibly stewarding right relationship to our planet, our times, and one another.
