Expressive Arts Offering: Memorial Art Workshop
Around the world, people make memorial art to stay connected and to honor loved ones who have passed on. In this class, we will look at different types of memorial art from around the world - from the ornate tomb art of ancient Egypt, to contemporary tattoo art - to better understand how humans use art to stay connected to those who are no longer inhabiting an Earth side body.
After learning about some ways memorial art is seen throughout different cultures, students will have time to make their own memorial art, which may be inspired by the memorial art practices we learned about or can be something all their own. Hopefully, students will walk away with a better understanding of how people from around the world and throughout history have made memorial art, and with a meaningful piece of art that they have made. This practice can help participants understand memorial art within a global context, stay connected to their own ancestors and loved ones, and can help process grief around the loss and transition of our loved ones to the other side of death.
Some basic art supplies will be supplied. Participants are encouraged to bring their own photos, mementos and materials to use or inspire their work.
Date: Wednesday, October 30th
Time: 6-8pm
Location: Indoors at Equinimity
Registration encouraged but not required. Please click here if you would like to register.
