EQUINIMITY UNIVERSITY
At Equinimity, we believe that there is so much to learn from the world around us - from animals, nature, and people. EqU was born out of our love of learning and wanting to share that with our community.
This year, we embark on a journey of discovery, guided by the wisdom of horses and the healing power of the Sonoran Desert.
- With Jeanie and Barbara, we'll decipher the subtle cues of equine communication, learning to read their body language, understand their energetic states, and deepen our connection with these magnificent creatures.
- Pati Stein will lead us on a captivating exploration of our indigenous plant neighbors, revealing their unique healing properties and the vital role they play in the intricate web of life.
Through interactive exercises, discussions, and hands-on experiences, EqU offers a learning journey into the deep inherent wisdom of the Natural World.
Despite the common belief that 80-90% of communication is non-verbal, humans often prioritize spoken language. Yet, consider the subtle shift in a horse's posture when it feels uneasy, the way a plant leans towards the sun, or the way we instinctively mirror another person's body language. These non-verbal cues play a crucial role in our social interactions, influencing how we connect, understand, and navigate the world around us. At EqU, we will learn from the masters of non-verbal communication – animals and plants. By observing their intricate communication systems, we will gain deeper insights into our own subtle awareness. Embark on a journey of discovery as we explore the many paths of non-verbal communication, from the subtle shifts in energy to the intricate dance of chemical signals. With animals and plants as our steadfast guides, we'll uncover the varied and creative signals of connection, protection, sharing, and boundaries that the Natural world has to offer.
Please note that due to travel and heat, we will be skipping a couple months.
Equinimity University welcomes you! We look forward to learning with you!

- June 4 - Connection and Offering
- There are many wonderful ways in which to engage with and learn from horses. They aren't just passive beings waiting to be petted. Although they love that too. They are sentient beings with their own personalities, needs, and ways of communicating. We have learned that sometimes they show up to offer us something. It can be an important part of our healing journey to know when to receive and to recognize the subtleties when something is being genuinely offered. It's important to remember that working with horses is a collaborative process. By approaching each interaction with respect, humility, presence, and a willingness to learn, we can cultivate a truly meaningful and mutually beneficial relationship.
- July 2 - Mesquite
- Mesquite is an extremely common tree much valued for its medicinal and nutritional properties. Its pods, bark, leaves and sap are used to treat various ailments. Mesquite beans made into flour are rich in nutrients and can help regulate blood sugar. The sap has been used for wounds as a topical remedy. Please join us as we learn more.
- September 3 - Prickly Pear
- Both the pads (nopales) and fruit (tunas) of the prickly pear are used for their nutritional and medicinal benefits. This lovely cactus can boost immunity and promote gut health, and some studies suggest it can improve heart health. Join us as we learn more.
- October 1 - Coherence and Ease vs Anxiety, Pain and/or Agitation
-
Coherence in the body can be thought of as a state of inner harmony and balance. Coherence is a state in which your heart beats steadily, your breath flows easily, and your mind is calm and focused, all parts are working together smoothly, there is no unnecessary tension and there might be a sense of flow.
Ease is a similar concept, describing a feeling of effortlessness and lightness. It's like you're moving through life without feeling strained or burdened. Both coherence and ease are associated with a sense of well-being, reduced stress, and increased resilience.
By cultivating awareness of ease in your body, you can begin to cultivate a deeper sense of well-being, reduce stress, and improve your overall quality of life.

- November 5 - Attention and Integration
-
Horses, by their very nature, embody the concept of integration time. Horses are highly attuned to their environment. They graze, they rest, they play, and they observe. These seemingly mundane activities are all part of their integration process. They're constantly processing information, assessing their surroundings, and allowing their bodies and minds to come back into balance.
Paying attention to the need for integration time is an important part of our wellbeing, overall health and wellness. The need for integration is crucial for our mental and physical health. In the Natural world around us, there is abundant evidence of readiness and integration; the inherent wisdom of growth and development. In Nature nothing can be rushed.
By consciously incorporating integration time into our lives, we can cultivate greater inner peace, enhance our well-being, and live more in harmony with ourselves and the natural world.
